John Carney

John is an avid triathlete, mountaineer, and adventurer. He has completed marathons, half-Ironmans, and six Ironmans in addition to climbing Mt. Rainier, Mt. Kilimanjaro (Africa), Aconcagua (S. America), Mt McKinley (N. America), Mt Vinson (Antarctica), and in the fall of 2010 will attempt to summit Carstensz Pyramid in Indonesia. He enjoys being active, being outside, and celebrating life!

John takes a very active role in the local community and is now primarily involved with getting young people off the couch and into an adventure. He was the Scoutmaster for Troop 654 and helped get many of the scouts out for a 50 mile and 25 mile AT hike - as well as a 65 mile canoe trip at Northern Tier, MN. He is now a Crew Advisor for co-ed Venture Crew 654 and just returned from an 85 mile backpacking trek with the Crew at the Philmont Scout Ranch in NM - with a fantastic group of Venture scouts. Next summer it's off to the Florida Keys for some scuba diving and then a climb up Mt Rainier!

John & Leslie Carney live in Alexandria, VA. They have 5 wonderful children 15-21 who seem to keep them quite busy.

They co-founded Carney, Inc. in 1994 with a fundamental belief in the power of emerging technologies to accelerate training, knowledge transfer, and performance improvement. Carney has worked to become the premiere provider of Performance Acceleration solutions for the federal government.

With a background in technology and communication, John believes that technology has the potential to fundamentally change the speed at which a person acquires new information, skills and expertise - providing a direct impact on an organization’s ability to transform, improve, and deliver better, consistent results.

Since 1994, Carney has provided technology-based training and performance improvement solutions to over 20 government agencies, all branches of the military, and numerous corporate, non-profit, and educational clients. Since 1997, the work Carney has done for its clients has won over 50 industry awards included five Brandon Hall Excellence in Learning Awards over the past four consecutive years. More importantly, Carney’s work provides increased readiness & performance for our armed forces and provides faster more cost effective workforce performance solutions for many civilian agencies.

John served for three years on the Board of Directors for the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce as well as an advisor for local Junior Achievement.

Carney, Inc. also provides financial and in-kind support to a very special non-profit school in Tanzania, Africa – Nianjema Secondary School and High School. John speaks at numerous industry learning events and symposiums.
Prior to co-founding Carney, John Carney was the director of information technology for the Independent Insurance Agents of America, a 25,000-person trade association headquartered in Alexandria, VA. John proudly served for six years in the Army National Guard. He is a graduate of North Carolina State University.
